Optimarin have secured order from Atlantis Tankers Group and its management company Armona Denizcilik AS for 10 vessels for its EX-approved Ballast Water Treatment System. The Norwegian BWT specialist is providing its market proven solution to two newbuilding and the eight existing vessels in the Turkish managed tanker fleet.
After being the first supplier of Ballast Water treatment systems, Optimarin has adapted its OBS to be suitable for operation in hazardous areas. The DNV approved solution meets ATEX requirements for Zone 1, Temp. class T4 and Gas group IIC. Optimarin has recently been in the news as the first UV system supplier to pass the USCG’s marine water tests, with full USCG approval expected in 2016.
This, along with the wider compliance, proven track record and market experience was key to seal the deal with Atlantis Tankers and Armona Denizcilik, which transports a variety of cargoes, including organic and non-organic chemicals, clean and dirty petroleum products, and vegetable and lube oils.
Two systems are scheduled for delivery in March and June 2016 for “Atlantis Augusta” and “Atlantis Alicante”, currently being built at “Selay” and “Selah” Shipyards – Turkey.
The remaining eight EX-systems are scheduled for delivery in 2018/19, for retrofitting installation on the existing fleet during special dry dock surveys in 2019/2020. The tankers range from 3,446 to 6,416 dwt and are all designed for the transport of IMO II classified chemical cargoes.
With the growth of the fleet of Atlantis Tankers Group focused on the future, Optimarin’s Ballast Water Treatment Systems will support Owner’s success, ensuring compliance, reliability and environmentally responsible operations.
